Mountain Creek

Mountain Creek flows north and east from Joe Pool Lake into Mountain Creek Lake, then from Mountain Creek Lake the creek continues north until it flows into the West Fork. The creek runs between steep banks of floodplain soils and is bordered mostly by wooded floodplains of varying widths. Bird watching is excellent, and wildlife sightings include raccoons, red eared sliders, soft shelled turtles and beaver. There are trips from 2 to 7 miles in length on 9 miles of Mountain Creek, which is dependent on rainfall and lake releases for adequate water levels. A combination of beaver dams and multiple smaller channels in the headwaters of Mountain Creek Lake may require portage.
